Fine dining, wherever you’re hosting in Chicago.

Private Chef Chicago

CHEFIN is a private chef service connecting you with vetted chefs across Chicago and the suburbs. Your chef plans the menu, brings the ingredients, cooks in your kitchen and cleans up before leaving. That can be a Gold Coast apartment, a Lincoln Park greystone, an office in the Loop, or a house on the North Shore. You pick the dining style. We find the chef whose cooking suits your menu, your dietary needs and the occasion, then you and your chef personalize the menu together. A concierge stays with it from the first message to the last plate cleared.

Cocktail and canapé packages start from $65 a head, three-course fine dining from $195, tax included. A private chef or a personal chef in Chicago is the same call here: tell us the night and we match you. Our chefs in Chicago come out of the city’s restaurant kitchens, so the culinary standard is the part you do not have to worry about. Finding a good chef in Chicago is the easy part. What sits behind them is the rest of it.

Amazing. Great food. Chat. Relax & have fun. No stress!

what customers say

How much does a private chef cost in Chicago, IL?

You pay per person, and the rate depends on the dining style and how many are coming. Cocktail and canapé packages start from $65 a head, family-style share plates at $165, three-course plated fine dining at $195, and five-course at $245. All inclusive of tax, with nothing added at checkout. There is no call-out fee, no ingredient surcharge and no cleaning charge either. The number you are quoted covers the chef, the groceries, the cooking, the service, and the kitchen left the way they found it.
Each package page shows its current rate. For an exact figure on your date and guest count, ask the concierge. Prices can shift over the December and New Year peaks and for last-minute booking.

What every package includes:

  • A vetted private chef, matched to your menu and dietary restrictions
  • Menu design and revisions with your chef, customized to your preferences
  • Premium ingredients, sourced and shopped for by your chef
  • Cooking on site in your kitchen, arriving ahead of service
  • Full kitchen and dining area cleanup
  • Concierge support from booking through to the evening
  • All taxes: the displayed rate is the final rate
  • Public liability coverage, and payment held in trust until after your event

What sits outside the per-person price:

  • Wait staff and bar staff: available as an add-on
  • Drinks, tableware, glassware and cutlery: can be arranged as add-ons

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find a personal chef in Chicago?

Through CHEFIN. Tell the concierge your date, where you are, how many are coming and what the evening is for, and we come back with chefs who are free and whose cooking suits it. Every chef has been screened before you see them, so you are choosing between good options rather than gambling on a stranger.

What is the difference between a private chef and a personal chef?

A private chef is booked for one occasion and cooks and serves on the day. A personal chef visits regularly to prepare meals for a household through the week. CHEFIN provides both in Chicago. A third arrangement, employing a full-time chef on salary, is a different service again. Tell the concierge which you are after and we will match you accordingly.

How much is a private chef three days a week?

That is a personal chef arrangement rather than an event booking, and it is priced differently — usually a weekly rate rather than a per-person one. CHEFIN offers recurring meal preparation as well as one-off event dining. Tell the concierge how often you want a chef and for how many people, and we will quote the right model.

Does the private chef cook at my house?

Yes. Your chef cooks on site in your kitchen. They work with the equipment that is there, bring the ingredients, and cook and plate everything fresh. Nothing arrives pre-made in trays. If the kitchen is small or short on equipment, tell the concierge and your chef plans the menu around it.

How much should I tip a private chef in Chicago?

Gratuity is at your discretion and is not built into the CHEFIN rate. If you want a benchmark, guests who tip usually land between 10 and 20 percent, in line with restaurant practice in Chicago. Nothing is added automatically and there is no service charge on the invoice.

Do private chefs clean up after cooking?

Yes. Every CHEFIN booking in Chicago includes full cleanup of the kitchen and dining area, and your chef leaves the space as they found it. Cleanup is part of the per-person price, not charged separately.

Can a private chef in Chicago accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes. Dietary restrictions are collected at booking and the menu is built around them: gluten-free, dairy free, vegetarian, vegan, keto, halal, kosher-style and specific allergies. With a group there is almost always at least one, so send them all through at once and your chef designs a single menu that caters to the whole table. Flag severe allergies explicitly so cross-contamination can be managed.

Are drinks and ingredients included in the service?

Ingredients are included: your chef does the grocery shopping and brings everything needed for the menu. Drinks are not included by default, but the concierge can arrange wine, cocktails or a bartender as an add-on if you would rather not handle it.

How far in advance should I book a private chef in Chicago?

Two to three weeks is comfortable for most dates. December, New Year and Valentine’s weekend go earlier, and so do summer rooftop dates when the weather is finally good. Last-minute booking is often possible, but the chef selection is narrower.

Private dining in Chicago, on your terms

Chicago knows private dining. Almost every good steakhouse and half the Loop has a back room, a minimum spend and a set menu somebody else wrote. A private chef gives you the same polish without any of that: a menu built for your guests, plated and served, in a space that is yours for the evening and does not turn over at nine.

It suits the gatherings restaurants handle badly. A table of fourteen that wants to hear each other. A client dinner where the conversation matters more than the room. A private dinner for a special occasion where the menu should mean something. And in a city where six months of the year are cold, hosting at home stops being a compromise and starts being the better option.

It scales both ways: an intimate dining experience for two in a Gold Coast apartment, a long shared table in Logan Square, canapés and a bar for a full floor in River North. You set the guest list and the brief; the chef builds the menu and runs the evening.

Private chef experiences for every occasion in Chicago

Chicago books a private chef when the evening matters more than the venue, and when the weather makes staying in the better plan.

  • Dinner parties: six to twelve around one table, the most common booking.
  • Milestone birthdays: a birthday dinner that has outgrown a restaurant table.
  • Corporate gatherings and private events: client dinners and team evenings, from the Loop to a River North loft.
  • Anniversaries and proposals: an intimate dining experience or tasting menu for two, tailored to the night.
  • Holiday hosting: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year, cooked in your own kitchen.
  • Winter entertaining: the long stretch from November to March when nobody wants a reservation and a cab.
  • Summer rooftops and back yards: the short season everyone makes the most of.
  • Bachelorette and bachelor weekends: a rented place in Wicker Park or West Loop and a group that would rather stay put.

Cooking in Chicago: cuisines, seasons and Midwest produce

Chicago has one of the strongest restaurant kitchens-to-private-chefs pipelines in the country, and it shows in the range. Steak and chophouse cooking is the obvious strength, but the city also runs on serious Italian, Mexican, Polish, Greek, Korean and Vietnamese cooking, and our chefs cover more than twenty cuisines between them. Several came out of Chicago fine dining before moving to in-home work, which is why the flavors on the plate hold up against a restaurant.

The Midwest supplies more than corn.
Prime beef and dry-aged steak, Great Lakes whitefish and walleye, Michigan cherries and stone fruit through summer, Wisconsin cheese and butter, and Green City Market produce from May through October. Chefs shop the freshest seasonal produce close to the day rather than working from a fixed list, so the culinary experience reflects what is actually good that week.

The seasons decide how you host.
Summer is short and spent outside: rooftops, decks, back yards, and menus built around the grill. Fall is the strongest produce season. Then comes the long cold stretch from November to March, which is exactly when hosting at home beats a reservation, a coat check and a cab in the sleet. Winter is peak season for a private chef here, and the search data agrees: January is one of the busiest months of the year.

The kitchens vary enormously.
Chicago runs on pre-war apartments with galley kitchens, greystones and two-flats with the kitchen at the back, new towers with islands and a lake view, and suburban houses built for entertaining. A Lincoln Park galley and a Winnetka kitchen are two different evenings to cook. Tell your concierge which one you have.
