Fine dining, wherever you’re hosting in New Orleans.

Private Chef New Orleans

Everyone comes to New Orleans for the food, then eats the same three dishes. A private chef is how you eat the rest of it. CHEFIN connects you with vetted chefs across New Orleans and the metro area — a shotgun house Uptown, a place in the Garden District, a French Quarter courtyard, a home across the lake in Metairie. Your chef plans the menu, sources premium ingredients, cooks on-site and cleans up before leaving. Creole done right, a crawfish boil in season, or a menu that goes somewhere the classics don’t. You pick the dining style; we match you with the chef whose cooking suits your menu, your dietary needs and the occasion, then you and your chef shape it together. A concierge stays with it from the first message to the last plate cleared.

Cocktail and canapé packages start from $65 a head, three-course fine dining from $195, tax included. A private chef for one evening or a personal chef on a regular basis: either way, it starts with the same call. Finding a good chef in New Orleans is the easy part. What sits behind them is the rest of it.

Amazing. Great food. Chat. Relax & have fun. No stress!

How CHEFIN works?

1. Dining style selection

Select the dining style that is most suitable for your event based on the number of dishes you are after, eg. 3-course fine dining meal, or cocktail canapes. Reserve here.

2. Platform Chef matches

Once a booking is reserved, the CHEFIN algorithm will take your preferences & match these with available chefs in your area.

3. Design a menu together

You will be able to tailor the chef’s services to your needs. Chefs LOVE to create dishes, every menu they construct is exclusive.

4. Sit back and enjoy!

The chef will arrive 1.5 hours beforehand with all ingredients and begin preparing. The only thing you need to do is sit down, relax and enjoy!

what customers say

How much does a private chef cost in New Orleans?

You pay per person, and the rate depends on the dining style and how many are coming. Cocktail and canapé packages start from $65 a head, family-style share plates at $165, three-course plated fine dining at $195, and five-course at $245. All inclusive of tax, with nothing added at checkout. There is no call-out fee, no ingredient surcharge and no cleaning charge either. The number you are quoted covers the chef, the premium ingredients, the cooking, the service, and the kitchen left the way they found it.

Each package page shows its current rate. For an exact figure on your date and number of guests, ask the concierge. Prices can shift over Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest and the festival weekends, and for last-minute booking.

What every package includes:

  • A vetted private chef, matched to your menu and dietary needs
  • Menu planning and revisions with your chef, tailored to your preferences
  • Premium ingredients, sourced and shopped for by your chef
  • Cooking on site in your kitchen, arriving ahead of service
  • Full kitchen and dining area cleanup
  • Concierge support from booking through to the evening
  • All taxes: the displayed rate is the final rate
  • Public liability coverage, background checks on every chef, and payment held in trust until after your event

What sits outside the per-person price:

  • Wait staff and bar staff: available as an add-on
  • Drinks, tableware, glassware and cutlery: can be arranged as add-ons

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find a private chef or personal chef in New Orleans?

Through CHEFIN. Tell the concierge your date, where you are, how many are coming and what the evening is for, and we come back with chefs who are free and whose cooking suits it. Every chef has passed background checks and a tasting before you see them, so you are not relying on a recommendation from a Facebook group.

How much does a private chef charge per meal?

CHEFIN prices per person, per event, rather than per meal. Cocktail and canapé packages start from $65 a head, three-course fine dining from $195, and five-course from $245, tax included. What moves the number is the dining style and the group size, not the number of courses alone.

What is included in a private chef service in New Orleans?

The chef, the premium ingredients, the cooking, the service and a full cleanup. Your chef plans the menu with you beforehand, shops for it, cooks on site in your kitchen, serves each course, and leaves the kitchen the way they found it. Wait staff and drinks are optional add-ons.

Is there a maximum number of guests for a private chef in New Orleans?

There is no hard limit, but the format changes with the numbers. Up to about fifteen guests suits a seated, plated dinner with one chef. Beyond that we usually suggest family-style share plates, canapés or a boil, and add a second chef or wait staff. Give the concierge the guest count and we will recommend the format that works for the room.

Will a private chef cook at my Airbnb or rental?

Yes, and it is one of the most common bookings we take here. Your chef cooks on site in the rental kitchen, works with the equipment that is there, and cleans up before leaving. Check with your host that the kitchen can be used, give the concierge the address and the guest count, and your chef plans the menu around the space.

Can a New Orleans private chef cook Creole and Cajun menus?

Yes, and properly. Our chefs here cook the city’s own food — gumbo, étouffée, barbecue shrimp, char-grilled oysters — as well as the wider range you would expect. If you want a crawfish boil rather than a plated dinner, that is a booking we take from January through June. Tell the concierge what the table is in the mood for.

Do private chefs clean up after cooking?

Yes. Every CHEFIN booking in New Orleans includes full cleanup of the kitchen and dining area, and your chef leaves the space as they found it. That matters more than usual in a short-term rental you would rather get the deposit back on.

Can a private chef accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes. Dietary needs are collected at booking and the menu is built around them: gluten-free, dairy free, vegetarian, vegan, keto, halal, kosher-style and any specific allergy. Shellfish allergies come up often here given how much of the local menu is Gulf seafood, so flag them early and your chef designs around it rather than working around it on the night.

How far in advance should I book a private chef in New Orleans?

Two to three weeks is comfortable for most dates. Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, Essence and New Year go much earlier — six to eight weeks is safer, and the good chefs go first. Last-minute booking is often possible outside festival season.

A private chef for a bachelorette weekend in New Orleans

A New Orleans bachelorette party is one booking where a private chef makes obvious sense. You have twelve people in a rented house in the Marigny or the Garden District, a weekend already planned around three things a day, and one night where getting a table anywhere good means splitting the group or eating at 10pm.

A chef comes to the house instead. Most groups do it on the first night, when everyone has just arrived, or as the sit-down dinner before going out on Frenchmen. Canapés and cocktails while people are getting ready works well too, and a crawfish boil in the courtyard is a genuine option in spring. Your chef shops for premium ingredients, cooks in the rental kitchen, serves, and cleans up before leaving.

The math usually surprises people. For ten or more, a private chef often comes in under what the same group would spend in the Quarter once drinks and gratuity are counted, and nobody is dividing a four-figure bill twelve ways at the end of the night.

Two things make it run smoothly. Tell the concierge the rental address when you book, because short-term rental kitchens here vary from restaurant-grade to barely equipped. And send every dietary requirement in one go rather than one at a time.

Private chef experiences for every occasion in New Orleans

New Orleans books a private chef when the group is too big for a good table, or when the evening should not involve a cab back from the Quarter.

  • Bachelorette and bachelor weekends: a rented house and a group that would rather stay in for one night.
  • Dinner parties: six to twelve around one table, the most common booking.
  • Brunch: a properly New Orleans institution, and one of the most requested formats here.
  • Milestone birthdays: a birthday dinner that has outgrown a restaurant table.
  • Crawfish boils: January through June, peaking in spring, cooked in your yard or courtyard.
  • Festival weekends: Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest and Essence, when every restaurant in town is booked out.
  • Corporate hosting: client dinners and team evenings, from the CBD to a Warehouse District loft.
  • Holiday hosting and Saints game days.

Private dining in New Orleans, on your terms

New Orleans has more good private dining rooms than most cities have restaurants, and almost all of them come with a minimum spend, a set menu and a table you have to leave. A private chef gives you the same polish without any of that: a menu built for your guests, plated and served, in a space that is yours for the evening.

It suits the gatherings the Quarter handles badly. A group of fourteen who want to hear each other. A client dinner where the conversation matters more than the room. A birthday that should not run on somebody else’s clock. It scales both ways too — a private dinner for two in a Garden District courtyard, a long shared table for a full house Uptown, canapés and a bar before everyone heads out.

Chef Nick Guan explains his dishes to guests

Cooking in New Orleans: Creole, Cajun and Gulf seafood

New Orleans is the one American city with a genuinely native cuisine, and our chefs cook it properly. Creole is the city food: French and Spanish technique, African and Caribbean influence, refined over three centuries. Cajun is the country cooking that came down from Acadiana, rougher and hotter. Most visitors use the words interchangeably; your chef will not. Between them our chefs also cover more than twenty other cuisines, because a table of twelve rarely wants gumbo three nights running.

The Gulf is the pantry.
Shrimp and oysters year-round, redfish and speckled trout, blue crab in summer, and crawfish from January through June with the peak in spring. Add Creole tomatoes out of Plaquemines in early summer, satsumas in winter, and Louisiana rice and andouille that are not the same as what you get anywhere else. Our chefs buy from the suppliers and growers they have chosen themselves, shopping close to the day rather than working from a fixed list.

The calendar runs on festivals, not seasons.
October through May is when the city is at its best and hosting is easy. Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest each turn the restaurant scene inside out, which is exactly when a chef at your own table is worth most. Summer is hot and wet, and menus get lighter and later for it.

The kitchens are older than most.
New Orleans runs on shotgun houses with the kitchen at the back, Creole cottages, converted doubles, Garden District homes with proper pantries, and short-term rentals stocked with whatever the owner left behind. A Bywater shotgun and an Uptown kitchen are two different evenings to cook. Tell your concierge which one you have, and mention the courtyard if there is one.
